Qualifying Rules Interpretation

At the drivers’ meeting in Madison on Friday morning (July 2) the Leadership of H1 announced that there would be no qualifying allowed on Saturday. The Go3 Race Team asked how this could be done because it would be in violation of:

  •  Rule 4, A, 1 (3 day event requires two days testing and qualifying).
  •  Rule 4, 4, (a) (minimum of six hours of qualifying and testing per day)

The Leadership of H1 explained, ‘Our new interpretation is…when there are heats of racing on Saturday, then Saturday will be considered race day, and qualifying will not be allowed!’

When pressed again by the Go3 team about how these rules could be changed by a “new interpretation?” H1 said, ‘We talked to some owners, and they don’t want qualifying on Saturday.  Therefore, there will be no qualifying on Saturday at an event that has heats of racing on Saturday.  Our decision is final.’

Madison Withdraw Statement

The Go3 Race Team withdrew from competition at the Madison Race because the leadership of H1 refuses to follow the written rules of the organization.
There is a reason why rules are written and precedents under the rules are followed. One reason for this is that the leadership of an organization cannot change the rules with a "new interpretation". For me the actions of the leadership of H1 are no longer tolerable.
